Summer at Chalet Alpine
Stadl on der Mur is a beautiful summer resort. The area has so much to offer, from having coffee and cake by a lake in one of the areas many cafes, having a gentle stroll or cycling along the River Mur to hiking in the mountains, mountainbiking or white water rafting. What ever you chose you will always find friendly people, fresh mountain air and fantastic scenery.
The summer also has plenty for the children. They can enjoy Kreischberg’s dinosaur forest for an adventure, a toboggan run at Turracher Hohe, a steam train ride or Horse riding.
Spas and Swimming
The chalet complex has its own indoor (unheated) swimming pool with solarium area and jaccuzzi. We are also within walking distance of a lei sure centre with bathing lake, ropes courseplay ground, tennis court, volleyball & summer toboggan run.
Romerbad at Bad Kleinkircham
Spa
The Spa is on three floors and has:-
Indoor and outdoor saunas, steam rooms, swimming pools, jaccuzzis, wellness bar, beauty and massage areas and relexation areas with direct access to the sauna gardens which overlook the mountians and ski runs.
There is a marvellous view of the Franz Klammer ski run from the Spa – you can relax in the outdoor Jacuzzi and just enjoy the view.
We would highly recommend the Spa but it is in the true Austrian style and therefore if you are of a more reserved nature we would suggest that you take a second towel for use in this area (as the wearing of bathing costumes is not allowed).
Hiking
Summer in Stadl offers many great hiking opportunities from family strolls in the valleys to difficult Nordic walking routes.
Altitudes vary between 800-2700m and Austria’s largest Swiss stone pine forest can be found nearby.
There are three certified Nordic centres close by. You also have the option of taking a ride up the mountain in the Gondola which runs through the summer, saving the hike through the trees.
Cycling
There are many cycle paths to experience, the longest being 350 km all the way to Slovenia. In addition there are mountain bike routes over the Alpentour route, which runs near to Stadl. Whether you chose a gentle ride along the cycle track next to the River Mur or a more challenging route in the mountains, you will always find beautiful scenery, clear mountain lakes and very hospitable cafes, bars and restaurants.
Golf
There are 21 courses in the area. Styria has 9 courses including the 18 hole Murau-Kreischberg course just a 10 minute drive from the chalet.
Steam Train Ride

There is a steam train ride which runs up and down the valley.
You can take the train from Stadl to the skiing, or why not visit the historic town of
Murau (below) it is only 15 minutes away

Museums
The historical town of Murau celebrated its 500 birthday in 1995. There is very interesting Brewery museum in Murau which shows the history of local beer brewing.
The Styrian Wood Museum at St Ruprecht is an established Museum which shows that there is more to the Forest than just trees.
A crystal Museum can be found at Turracher – a must see Museum with giant crystals.
Other attractions
The Vivarium - The translation for this is “life in water”. It showcases native fish life and life in the Amazon River. Spectacular and colourful presentations and a well balanced mix of information and recreation (including swimming areas which turn to ice rinks in winter, spa areas, massage, a café) make this accessible to both young and old.
A Model Railway can be found at Knittelfeld. Built in 1969 there are over 600 meters of track. This truly is an awesome model railway which will impress kids, and the big kids.
For all you history enthusiasts this region of Austria is home to many fine castles which display a fine medieval history of the area. Nearby examples are Mauterndorf Castle and Finstrgrun Castle near Ramingstein and Moosham Castle close to Tamsweg.
